Though this story could also be promoted as a sequel, it recapitulates enough background to carry this story along on its own.

Mrs. Glynne’s straightforward narrative is punctuated with unexpected moments of situational humor and an unlikely lighter-side character who plays off the more serious-minded Special Agent Kleison to make for perfect chemistry by how opposing they seem. This dubious partnership makes for wonderful drama and foibles that not only complicate the investigation, but pose personal risks that endanger not only their lives, but the lives of people close to them. The story concludes with a jaw-dropping ending that no one will see coming.

The entirety of this epic investigative story has been told in three volumes, beginning with Smoke and Miracles, and concluding with a third volume that has been written but yet remains untitled. Each volume exists as a separate story, yet unveils a part of the mystery and concludes with a definitive answer to the conflict presented in each book, setting the hook for the next part of the saga with the hint of a new mystery. As the story unravels, Ms. Glynne reveals an incredible conspiracy that threatens all of humanity, as well as sets the stage for yet another chapter in her main character’s own mysterious life.
